The illustration was made in the 1950’s and has style and figure work that depicts the time period.

The movie is the sender of the message.

People who attend movie showings are the intended audience.

The illustration is used to give a hint at what the movie is about and who the main actors are in the film.

It is a poster trying to get people to watch a particular movie by stating what the movie is about visually.

The illustrator is Reynold Brown. In the 1950’s he worked and lived in Los Angeles, California.

8.       What medium was the illustration created in?

Brown used Paint to illustrate. (I’m not sure if it was oil or acrylic) It is then used as a template for posters about the film and printed.

9.       Why did you choose this as one of your illustration examples?

I chose this poster as my example because it was easy to determine the “sender”, “message” and “receiver”.  I also like the style of old illustrations, especially from the 1940s through the 1960’s.  There is a nostalgic air about images made during this period that I am drawn to.
